School Counseling Intern

January 2018- Present​

​Working closely under the supervision of Phylicia Littleton the School Counselor at Benjamin Syms Middle School. This school presents services and interventions to 750 students from 6th-8th grade. This internship requires 300 total hours to be completed in a K-12 environment with at least 120 direct service hours and 180 indirect service hours.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Held individual counseling sessions throughout the semester reaching over 50 students to assist in social issues such as conflict resolution, classroom behavior, building friendships, and eliminate bullying.

  • Designed innovate methods and materials to engage students of diverse backgrounds in career exploration and academic goal setting.

  • Developed a Transition Workshop for the Academies of Hampton to assist students in applying to the high school of their choice.

  • Assisted in coordination and implementation of the My Big Airman Mentorship in collaboration with Langley Air Force Security Forces Team.

  • Collaborated with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in an effort to increase student’s academic performance and social well-being.

Barron Elementary School

Working under close supervision from Principal Katherine Johnson and Assistant Principal Laura Wyatt. This school presents services and interventions to 380 students Pre-K through the fifth grade. School Counseling services include: individual counseling, gifted, and classroom guidance opportunities.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating creative and effective classroom guidance lesson plans.

  • Creating interventions to be used in individual counseling settings such as social stories, worksheets, activities, and crafts.  

  • Use of evidence-based practices and definitive forms of measurements such as pre-test/post-test, exit tickets, and scales.

  • Individual, small group, and conflict resolution counseling skills.

  •  Coordination of gifted program. 

  •  Coordination and implementation of the Barron Knight’s Angel Tree as community outreach to assist our struggling students through the holidays.
